1,900 Insurance Jobs Added In September, 2019
Employment growth in the insurance industry slowed down in September, adding only 1,900 jobs, according to employment numbers recorded by the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s Economic Situation Report released earlier this month. The industry now employs 2,730,400 persons with an unemployment rate of 2.0 percent.
September’s slow growth comes on the heels of several successful months. The insurance industry added 5,400 jobs in August and 10,800 jobs in July. Over the past three months, the industry has added 18,100 insurance jobs while the unemployment rate has ranged from 1.6 to 2.2 percent.
Across all industries, private employers added 136,000 jobs to the US economy in September while unemployment hit a low not seen since December 1969 at 3.5 percent. Last month, gains primarily occurred within healthcare (+39,000 jobs) and business and professional services (+34,000).
