Insurance Adds 1,400 Jobs in May, 2019

The insurance industry added 1,400 jobs in May according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic’s Economic Situation report released on Friday, June 7, 2019.

The industry now sits at 2,712,000 employed insurance workers with an unemployment rate of 1.0 percent, the lowest since December 2018. 

Since February of this year, the industry has added 10,700 jobs, up slightly from the 8,100 jobs added over the same period the year before.  

Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment edged up in May by 75,000 jobs while the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent. Employment, most notably, continued to trend up in professional and business services and in health care.
