Insurance Employment Update: August 2018

The insurance industry neither added nor lost insurance jobs in August, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report published on Friday.

The insurance industry now employs 2,674,700 persons, with an unemployment rate of 2.4 percent. Since the beginning of the year, the unemployment rate has averaged 1.8 percent a month.

Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 201,000 jobs while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.9 percent. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, healthcare, wholesale trade, transportation and warehousing, and mining.
