Interview Tips: Show That You Want the Job
You’re sitting in an interview for a job you want… really, really want. How can you showcase your eagerness to land this role without appearing desperate for any old job? Follow these tips!
Express Yourself Clearly
A common interview question, “Why do you want this job?”, is a perfect opportunity to showcase your eagerness for a role. Be blunt – tell them how appealing you found the job description and why (ie. you’ve always admired the company, the role matches your career objectives perfectly, etc).
Show Them
Be polite, be friendly, be authentic, and be excited. Showcasing your passion while speaking gives you an edge over those candidates who appear more reserved or nervous.
Do Your Homework
Take this opportunity seriously. Do your research on the company, staff and hiring managers, and the role itself. Don’t know where to start? Check out this article on researching a company before an interview.
Send a Thank You Note
Sending a thank you note following your interview always makes a lovely impression, but it also showcases your enthusiasm for a role. Keep it short and to the point, thanking the hiring manager for their time. Extra points for a handwritten note vs. an email.
