The US Adds 224,000 Jobs in June, 2019
June Employment Beats Projections After Several Sluggish Months of Slow Growth
The US economy added 224,000 new jobs in June, according to the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, exceeding projections by 60 percent.
Employment has averaged 172,000 per month in 2019, compared to an average monthly gain of 223,000 in 2018.
Both the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed persons, changed little at 3.7 percent and 6 million persons, respectively.
June’s job growth comes on the heels of several slow-growing months. Last month, employment grew three times faster than May’s employment.
Notable job growth occurred in professional and business services (+51,000), in health care (+35,000), and in transportation and warehousing (+24,000).
